YIKES! Time flies...

So sorry that it has been so long since my last post!  I have meant to keep you all up to date, but find that I get busy and forget.  That said, let me tell you about what has kept me so busy lately...

First of all, in June I had the opportunity to go to the ALA (American Library Association) Annual Conference in Chicago.  Five days of meetings and exhibitors to discuss all things TEEN related.  I have also returned with many ARCs (advanced reading copies) of YA things to come, and some signed and unsigned new releases.  It was exciting and I was able to meet and talk with some of our favorite authors - Marie Lu, Lois Lowry, Sarah Dessen, and more.  My favorite author to talk with was Frank Beddor, author of the "Looking Glass Wars" series.  Frank has recently completed a set of graphic novels told from the point of view of the mad hatter (the books are "Alyss" point of view/GNs are "Hatter M" point of view) which Frank has agreed to donate to our library!!  I know you will enjoy them, and I can't wait to receive these from Frank!

Now that I have returned to Morgan County, the library has kicked off the summer reading program.  The theme this year for teens is "Beneath the Surface" and began on July 15th.  It will run until Aug. 17th, at which time we will give away the prizes for reading.  If you haven't already signed up, you need to hurry, because you only have THIS WEEK to sign up for this year's program.  It will be a good program, and all you have to do to win prizes is read!!  We will have a discussion on gardening in August with Leslie Milbourne of Wind Dance Farm, and our "annual" pizza and movie night, too.  So stop by and pick up your packet before it's too late, and I'll see you all soon at the library!

Happy Summer!

YA NEWS

First of all, I want to tell any high school seniors about an important opportunity:
The Friends of the Library are giving three $1000 scholarships to HS Seniors who will be attending college in West Virginia.  Scholarship applications are available at the Morgan County Public Library.  Deadline for the applications is MARCH 31st.  If you have any questions, just give us a call!  We want to make sure that this opportunity is available to those who need it.

The second bit of news is about our Summer reading program:
The second annual Summer Reading Program for Teens will kick off on July 15th and continue for 5 weeks.  Theme for this year's program is Beneath the Surface.  Signups begin the first of June.  ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ to earn "prizes"!  Even if you attend camp or have vacation plans, you can still sign up.  Just keep a record of the books you read and bring to the library to receive tickets for the prize drawing.  We do have activities, but you do not have to do the work or attend the events if you do not want.  If you participate, you will be invited to our end of program "get together" - pizza and a movie.  Put this event on your calendar now so you don't miss out!

Last but not least:
The YA room has been gradually growing and growing...  Now it's time to weed.  COME IN and CHECK OUT the new books.

See you soon at the library!

Thinking of Spring

Spring is in the air and with that always comes the time to clean out the old and bring in the new.

Many of our tried and true books have not been read in a while.  It is sad to see them go, but we need to clear space in our little room for all the new and exciting titles I have been ordering since the first of the year.

You can save a book from being deleted from the stacks by coming to the library and checking it out.  If you are more than ready for something new, you need to check out the lists of new books on the bulletin board.

YOU CAN SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS by reviewing a book and posting that review on the board also!

Just one more thing...  We are working on the Summer Reading Program - our SECOND YA SRP @ MoCo - and I would love your input!  Stop by and see me when you come into the library.

growing, growing, growing

Ok, I know that I said that I have gotten some new books this month, and even given you a few of the titles, but I have added MANY more since my last blog.  Just had to let you know.  And I'm not done yet.  You really have to see this!  Besides, what else is there to do when it's 18 degrees outside???

If you have special projects for school, you should know that I have also added some new non-fiction titles to our YA collection.  There are more of those coming, too!

And don't forget, that you can always request books that we don't have.  If I can't get them from another library, I might just consider ordering them to add to the collection - and you would get to check them out FIRST.  Isn't that great?!

So come in and say hello, grab some books, and get inspired.  See you soon.
