What's new at the library
Every year I try to focus on what is needed to fill our new teen space. I am still working on expanding the non-fiction section that I started to work on last winter. New books will be arriving within the next few months. I think you will enjoy the new titles.
I have also just ordered TWELVE (12!) new audio books for our YA shelves. Most of them have print versions also available. Eight of the audio books have already arrived, and the other 4 should be here shortly. If you are interested - and I know many of you are! - be sure to stop by and be the first to check out these new books.
Things have slowed down in the print world. Not too many new releases that I have seen that might be of interest. So, if you know of something I have missed, or an upcoming title that I need to find, be sure to let me know.
Until later - I'll see you at the library!

Is it FALL already??
Wow - I am really far behind with my blog. I just noticed that it has been a couple of months since I have updated this; I apologize to you all, and hope that you are doing well with your new school year.
Things are marching along, with even more new books in our YA room. I am going to be weeding some old titles, so if there are ones that you feel absolutely MUST stay, let me know. Better yet, check them out for another look at them... I weed depending on what you read and what you don't read, so if you love something, reread it, recommend it to a friend, keep it circulating so it will stay on our shelves. On the other hand, the more space I have, the more NEW books we can order to replace the older books.
Believe it our not, I have to make a blog for a class I am taking in college, so I need to close this and get to work. Hope everyone is having a wonderful time and staying busy! See you at the library!

The Summer Reading Program for Teens has now ended for this year. If you did not participate, you really want to think about it for next summer! Those who did participate had a really fun time, and are looking forward to upcoming events.
We unfortunately had to cancel the stargazing party at the observatory due to rain. This event will be rescheduled in September as a "back to school" celebration.
In October, the Young Adult Library Association sponsors a Teen Read event, where teens vote on their favorite books from a list provided by YALSA. This list is available now at the library. Read and review so that you can make your opinions count!
Other upcoming events to follow....
Keep in touch!

The Summer Reading Program has begun at the library, and we have 20 wonderful teens signed up to participate! If you haven't signed up but would like to, see me at the library as soon as possible!!
If you have signed up, start reading!! Don't forget to write down your books and earn tickets for prizes.
Our first event, Ghost Stories with Granny Sue, was last night, July 3, at the library. It was a small group, but the stories and ballads were wonderful. Thanks, Granny Sue!
Our next event, a Teen Safety Program with Sheriff Shambaugh, will be next Friday night, July 13th, 7 pm at the library. Please sign up with me if you plan to attend! It should be a very important event that will benefit all of our teens.
The 3rd event, Stargazing at the Morgan County Observatory, will be on Friday, July 20th, at 8 pm. I need to have a list of participants as soon as possible, as we will be making a T-shirt prior to this event, and I must order them to arrive in plenty of time. This is going to be a very informative and fun event, with Kevin Boles planning an activity and discussion prior to the public Star Party.
More later - Hope to see you all SOON!

While it looks like there isn't anything new going on, that is far from true! The inventory of books for young adults here at MoCo Library is ever expanding, and you can find many new interesting items on the shelves.
One such new arrival is a collection of Graphic Novels, on loan from the West Virginia Library Commission. These GNs will be here for a while, and there is quite a diverse subject matter among them, so stop in and see if you can find any that might be of interest to you.
Also, new shelving is on the way to accommodate our growing collection and will be installed the end of this month. We really are in need of this, as those of you who come regularly can attest!
Lastly, the Teen Summer Reading Program is set to begin the first of July, and sign-ups are under way NOW! Stop in, sign up, and get your booklet - but remember, just review for now, don't start until July 1. No cheating! You may also sign up for the events now, rather than waiting for July. Hope to see many of you over the summer and especially for this program. I am excited about it, and think you will all have a good time.
See you at the library -

The Forest of Hands and Teeth By: Carrie Ryan
The Forest of Hands and Teeth tells the story of Mary, a teenager, living in a post apocalyptic society. A disease called The Return has raged across America and turned all those infected into zombies. Mary lives in the only village left tucked deep into the forest. Gates keep out all those infected and life goes on.
I enjoyed this book it was fast paced and action packed. It was a very interesting premise and I thought the zombie aspect was very well done. It was a nice read but not very deep. I got a little tired of the love triangle aspect towards the end but overall it was still a good read. If you're looking for a quick read that combines sci fi and romance this is the book for you.

The Name Of The Star: Maureen Johnson
Review: Let me first say that I love Maureen Johnson. Her writing style is quirky and funny without being forced. Her characters are likable, interesting, and relatively believable, and none of them come off as whiny, even though it would be easy to take them in that direction.
This book had an interesting plot, with a spooky, supernatural sort of tone. It's a book for a rainy day (but aren't all books better when it's raining?), and curling up with a cup of tea and a mountain of blankets. That's how I read it, actually. In bed with darjeeling, sage honey, and 1% in my favorite mug. One of the things I liked about this book was its believability. Johnson writes about a real place with possible characters and events, and adds just one thing. You don't get caught up in a confusing supernatural world. Aside from the existence of ghosts, most of the events in the book could actually happen. Some stuff pertaining to the ghosts got a little far-fetched, but that is to be expected with any fantasy novel.
I recommend this book, as it is creative, amusing, and, while not exactly deep and existential, a worthwhile, quick read. Honestly, I'd recommend any of Johnson's books. The Name Of The Star is apparently the first in a series, and I will certainly be anticipated the newest installment.
